Biography
In 1997, Dr. Cooke settled in Abilene and started private practice in orthopedic surgery, joining Dr. Holloway at Abilene Bone & Joint. He is currently serving as the Head Orthopedic Physician for Abilene High School.

Dr. Cooke finds it fulfilling to treat patients and their families over their lifetime with a focus on maintaining a full continuum of care. Cooke states that he enjoys, “fixing things rather than managing things,” and muses that the specialty may not be the most glamorous, but it is very satisfying to see the difference he can make in a patient’s quality of life.

Biography
Dr. Stark grew up in Beeville, Texas. He graduated with honors from Rice University in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. Dr. Stark also participated and lettered in Track and Field for the Division 1 Rice Owls in pole vault. Dr. Stark entered into a private practice of Orthopedic Surgery in Weatherford, Texas in 1988. After 15 years of developing a successful practice, Dr. Stark relocated to Abilene to join Doctors Holloway and Cooke at Abilene Bone and Joint.

Dr. Stark has served as the head Orthopedic Surgeon for Abilene Christian University since 2004 and as medical director of the ACU master’s program in athletic training. He participates in the mentoring program for ACU students interested in the healthcare profession. In the past, Dr. Stark was involved in the training of Texas Tech Family Medicine Residents at Hendrick Hospital.

While in Weatherford, Dr. Stark served as vice chief of medical staff, chief of medical staff and president of the Parker County Medical Society. At Hendrick Medical Center, Dr. Stark has served as chief of surgery, 2009-2010; vice chief of staff, 2011-2013; and chief of the medical staff, 2013-2015. He has also served on the governing board of the Texas Midwest Surgery Center, 2007-2008 and served as chairman on the board in 2009.

Dr. Stark’s personal interest include hunting, ranching, flying and restoring vintage airplanes, and spending time with his family. He is married, with two children and two grandchildren – all in Abilene. They are members of First Central Presbyterian Church, Abilene.

Dr. Sager has joined Abilene Bone & Joint to become their newest surgeon. A hand specialist, Dr. Sager will be the first, and only, fellowship trained hand and upper extremity surgeon in the Big Country.

A graduate of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Dr. Sager completed his Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship under the direction of the renowned Dr. Martin Posner of the New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases, New York, NY.

Dr. Sager is a newlywed. He and his physical therapist wife are eager to make Abilene their home. In his spare time, Dr. Sager enjoys outdoor activities and travel. Dr. Sager is currently accepting patients.

Biography
Dr. Vann accepted a military scholarship for medical school and completed his orthopedic residency training at Brooke Army Medical Center in 2008. While there, Dr. Vann spent a large portion of his time taking care of wounded soldiers of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.

After residency, Dr. Vann moved to North Carolina and served at Fort Bragg, spending four years taking care of Airborne and Special Operation soldiers. In 2009, Dr. Vann deployed to Iraq, serving in Baghdad with the 115th Combat Support Hospital at Victory Base Complex caring for US and Iraqi casualties.

Dr. Vann spent the summer of 2011 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center providing orthopedic coverage and operative treatment for severely injured soldiers and marines. He completed his military service in 2012, transitioning to Rush University Medical Center, Midwest Orthopedics, Chicago, Illinois for a one-year Adult Reconstruction Fellowship specializing in knee and hip replacement.

During his military service, Dr. Vann received the Army Commendation Medal – Operational Iraqi Freedom, 115th CSH, Baghdad, 2009, as well as the Meritorious Service Medal, Fort Bragg, 2012, and the Iraq Campaign Medal​

Kerry was born in Knox city, TX. Having lived in Aspermont, TX until the age of 10, Kerry moved to Abilene and graduated a ‘Warbird’ from Abilene High School
Kerry then began his career with Dr. BJ Estes in Abilene. In 1990 he began working at Abilene Bone and Joint with Dr. Shannon Holloway and later Dr. Shannon Cooke. After a brief stint in Emergency Medicine, he returned to Abilene Bone and Joint in February 2016 to head the Prompt clinic at the south location. Kerry is married to his wife Jenny who is also a PA. Kerry and his wife have two twin sons, Kade and Konnor. He is active in his church at Jim Ned Valley Church of Christ. Kerry enjoys working on his family’s ranch as well as hunting and fishing.

Biography
Jividen’s interest in orthopedics and sports medicine began when he was a high school athlete. Personal sports injuries treated by Doctors Stark and Cooke provided him significant exposure and interest in the subjects of orthopedics and physical therapy. He states that, “I enjoy seeing the resilience and adaptability of the human body … watching injured bones and muscles get stronger in direct response to healing and physical therapy.”

Jividen is most satisfied when helping others get back on their feet, assisting them to regain the strength and mobility needed for the things they enjoy. Jividen’s other interests include most outdoor activities. Jividen is a Deacon at Oldham Lane Church of Christ. He is married with three children.

Biography
In January 2020, Chad joined the team at Abilene Bone & Joint under the direction of Derek Padon, MD. As a high school athlete, Chad suffered a season-ending leg fracture. That was the catalyst he needed to pursue a career in sports medicine and orthopedics. One of the things he enjoys most when working with patients is being an active part of helping them reach their goals.

Chad enjoys spending time with his family, attending sporting events, and doing just about anything outdoors. Chad is married with three children. He and his family attend Highland Church of Christ. He is a proud supporter of ACU and Abilene High athletics.

Biography
Shona began her medical career in Brownwood, before moving to Abilene just a few years later. Shona has worked diligently to manage the opiates prescribed for her patients. She is involved in the Abilene community in many aspects, a few of these include her as an active member of First Baptist Church, a current member of the Abilene Philharmonic Guild and the Abilene Ballet Theatre Guild. Perhaps what Shona is most proud of is her volunteer involvement via Junior Achievement.

Christopher says that if he couldn’t be in orthopedic medicine, he might like to open a Cajun restaurant. He currently runs a local catering business in his spare time. She believes that the ability to work directly with AB&J doctors and staff makes a very positive impact on patient care and outcomes.

After having the opportunity to shadow a physical therapist in her senior year of high school, Erin knew it was the career for her. Erin likes to remind people that physical therapy is not about pain but working with people to show and teach them how amazing the human body is and how it can recover, adapt and modify. Erin’s busy day is just beginning when she gets home to her twin daughters and her husband. They all enjoy being outside working in the yard.

Spence joined Abilene Bone & Joint in 2010 and serves as both as the practice manager as well as a physical therapist for the practice. He was introduced to physical therapy after a high school sports related ACL injury and surgery temporarily sidelined him. He enjoyed the relationship he developed with his PT and became excited to learn that PT could be a career choice that would continue his relationship with sports.

Spence finds that helping people heal is extremely rewarding. Further, he finds working with a great staff makes a very enjoyable workday. Spence says, “physical therapy doesn’t always have to hurt! Plenty of my patients who had worried about pain soon learn that their fears were unfounded.” Attending PT can be more rewarding than painful when it is tailored to the individual needs of a patient.

Spence’s other interests include hanging out with the family, golf, and building furniture. Spence is married and has two daughters.

An Abilene native, Ginger is married to Wesley and they have two children – Ayden and Adley. Ginger and Wesley are active members of Wylie Baptist Church.

When asked what she considered as the best part of her daily work, the answer was quick and adamant, “hearing when a patient’s pain is gone, and they are able to return to work or playing sports is fulfilling!”

MATT LYTLE, PTA – Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant

Biography

Matt joined Action Sports Medicine as a licensed physical therapist assistant in December 2017.  Matt has been licensed since 2015 and has exclusively worked in outpatient orthopedics since that time.  Prior to receiving his license, Matt worked on the business side of healthcare. Watching how physical therapy impacted patients and their families, Matt was inspired to change professions. He now says, “My job leaves me very energized each day as I encourage patients through the challenges of a full recovery.”

Matt states that if he could not be involved in the field of Physical Therapy he would like to be involved in the home building industry.  Matt enjoys helping patients achieve personal goals and work toward maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.   Matt and his wife Renee have been married since March of 2018.
